Cayenne E-Hybrid?
 

As some of you know, I've been waiting for a Lucid Gravity (EV SUV with 450 miles range). It now looks like delivery will be further delayed eliminating the $7K rebate (which Lucid was honoring and paying rather than the feds, making me and the car eligible), so I'm thinking of options.

Lucid
Ludicrous power (828 HP, 909 ft-lbs of torque)
EV with 450 mile range and fastest charging of any EV available in the US
"Cool" factor of a very new car
Huge amounts of interior storage
Much simpler powertrain than a hybrid
(-) Company deeply in the red (but 51% owned by the Saudis who have lots of money)
(-) Software glitches common to EVs
(-) Would need to charge once towing to Watkins Glen and VIR, twice to Mid-Ohio (with good charger, 15-minute charge would suffice)

Cayenne
Plenty of power even in the base (similar to the "S" ICE version)
Most days I drive <30 miles or close to that - the "plug-in" range (albeit less power if not using the V6)
Financially sound manufacturer
Tows 7700 lbs (Lucid tows 6000)
4" shorter (not much but easier to fit in garage)
(-) Complex powertrain, more maintenance required
(-) Probably more expensive to run


So, does anybody have any experience or knowledge of the current model (2024-2026) Cayenne E-Hybrid?

We've got about 20k miles on our E-hybrid base and love it. Previously had a 958 GTS, so I think of the hybrid part as a surrogate for the "S". Electric torque at low rpms gives better responsiveness than the old GTS.

We average around 35 mpg with an 80 mile total commute, charging every night. In the summer electric-only range is around 50 miles. In the winter it goes down to 40.

I have never towed with it, and probably won't ever, so I don't have any insight there. That's why I have the Yukon with a 6.2L V8 :)

Stock tires are meh - optimized for fuel mileage. Waiting for them to wear out so I can get some michelins.

They work well. The early ones(prior to the one you mentioned) had teething pains but all of my clients really liked the current model. I can tell the truth being that I dont work there any more... I would own one.

Easy answer. Anything except a Lucid. I know 3 people that have/had a Lucid. All 3 have horror stories of dealing with the cars and the company. Brick in the driveway for months kind of stuff. They seem to need a lot of factory support and the factory support seems to almost intentionally bad. The values fall off a cliff. Lease at best.

Printed stats on distance towing and other things are highly suspect especially towing distance

IMO. Electric is more suited for repeat personal transportation. Does not lend itself well to distance towing yet. Was looking at the ford lightning as a commuter and local knock around. Seems no one was seeing actual real world that was close to published stats. Might grab a used one after it falls off the devalue cliff and build a solar powered charger .

F-450 Super Duty is the answer 😜

I daily an EV and I've been pretty enamored of Lucid, but has tempered me a bit. Seems they're a long way from working out all the software kinks.

On the other hand, most of what I hear about Rivian is positive and impressive. I'd look there for a potential EV tow vehicle.

Also FWIW -- not for towing, but a friend of mine picked up a used Panamera e-Hybrid and has been very happy with it.
