Now that's a deal
Two years ago I paid $11k for a Carrera in pretty good shape. Not concous, but decent. I thought I got a deal considering most Carreras at the time went for about $15k.
I was out today, and stopped by the Starbucks in Germantown to get my caffine fix. While getting back in my car, I heard the unmistakable sound of a flat 6. I know Bill's car is up getting painted, and the car I heard was running much too smooth to for it to be Pari. Hmmm... another 911 in Germantown. I turn and see a guy in a black 83 Targa. I strike up a conversation with him, surprising him by knowing his car was an 83.
I ask him how long he's had the car, and he tells me 20 years. Wow - original owner? No, he bought it one year old, in 1984. Wow, that must have been expensive, I said. He laughed, and told me his ex wife worked for a company that bought their execs company cars. Whatever they wanted. One guy wanted a 911. A year after getting the car, he gets fired. Now the company is stuck with this 911. So they offer it for sale to the employees for what it was on the books for. Now, an 83 SC Targa cost $32k back then, plus about 8k in options on this car (leather, spoilers). So its a 1 year old, $40k car. They offer it to him for $18k. He said he couldn't get to the bank to get the loan fast enough. This would be the equivalent of finds a 1 year old 996 for about $32k today. Some guys have all the luck.
