Boxster Wheel Bearings - 996 Boxster REAR

Looking online for these, some sites only list the fronts, and other sites imply the front and rear bearings are the same.

Also, does anyone happen to have one on hand which I can replace next week? I was planning to bring the car to the "last DE" but not without a bearing... BTW, I do already have the Sir Tools kit.

Thanks in advance.

Could try called the dealer and asking them.

I replaced all 4 of mine last year. Same bearing front and rear. Sorry but I don't have a spare.

If you have very long wheel studs, be forewarned that your SIR tool may not work without removing one of the studs.

As Jerome said, bearings are the same front and rear.

I have a couple of spare bearings on hand. If you want to come pick one up, just replace it with another when you get a chance.

The hub and bearing are out. The hub is shot - worn where it goes into the bearing (it actually fell out once the nut was off!), and the bearing didn't look all that bad. New parts on order. Thanks much BillC for offering spares but new parts come in a couple of days. It's hard to believe that the car drove okay on track...but had checked for play prior to event.

Glad it didn’t fall apart during the race, but you should fire the mechanic for not checking all components on a car before putting it on the track. Just saying 😱

The car had a $1000+ PPI in NY before I bought it. I won't mention here who did it but they missed:
  • Non-functioning brake booster
  • Engine cover missing 3 of the 5 latches, letting tons of heat and some exhaust into the passenger compartment
  • Failed wheel hub (TBH I checked this prior to event and didn't feel play)
  • Oil that was cloudy very light brown

I'm way more glad than you are that it didn't fall apart during a race. Had this been a Miata, the wheel would have fallen off (not kidding about this).
