No Longer Exiled on Main Street

In the words of the immortal Frank Costanza, "I'm BACK, BABY!" After a month of setting up my new office and dealing with 911 emissions problems, things are on track on both fronts. Just passed emissions today and got my tags, after a month exiled to the garage. My new office is also in shape. It's on Main Street in Manassas. Explanation for Rick Lee--see, my office is on Main Street, which makes the subject of this post a play on the Stones' album title--get it? Sorry I can't make the monthly gathering or Dynos this weekend, I'll be at the beach. Then I'll be BACK again.

Good to have you back! I wondered what happened to you. In two months I'll be in your neck of the woods, if I can get my car running again.

Truth be told, Dan just got his Carerra back after a respray to Sepia Brown.

It's good you're back, Dan!

Suspecting a prank, I ran out and checked. It's still red. :P

Welcome back, Dan!

How in the world did you pass emissions? I was gasping last time I followed you home.

Rick--

At some point in the past 2 years the car-side connector for the O2 sensor broke apart from fatigue/age. As I have since found out, this is a pretty common problem with the older Carerras. The lead wire from the sensor consequently broke from the stress of the connector breaking, but it wasn't visible because it broke inside the insulation. I replaced the O2 sensor and connection with a spade connection after flunking emissions and also did a tune up. According to the inspector, the O2 sensor won't affect HC, which is what I flunked, so it is probably the tune up that did the trick. What you experienced probably was related to the O2 sensor (lack thereof) though. As I mentioned to Ted, if it was in fact the tune up that did the trick, the tune up amazingly cut HC emissions by more than 50%.

What was the tune up then? Valve adj.? Air/fuel mix. adj.? New chip? My old Carrera had a high HC problem too and it was impossible to fix.
