Looking to rebuild G31 transmission - anyone in the DMV have experience with these?

The transaxle in my 1981 924 turbo (with a 1980 engine and trans) has worn synchros and/or "dog teeth." I purchased a euro G31 transaxle (slightly lower gear ratio) in similar condition. I'd like to have this transaxle rebuilt, then swap it out for the one in the car.

I've identified a couple of shops that work on G31s but they are in Arizona, Massachusetts and California. Shipping a transaxle back and forth obviously would add to the cost.

Anyone know of a local shop (within 250 miles) of the DMV that could take this on?

I just drove a Carrera gts club sport the other day and thought "man, this gearbox isn't intuitive at all". Good luck with finding a shop!

Lucky! Not many of those around these parts.

Yeah, the G31 is an odd duck. And even less intuitive with bad synchros. lol.

The alternative is swapping in a 944 transaxle and everything else that goes with it...torque tube, shifting mechanism and more.

Update: I ended up shipping the transaxle to Catellus Engineering in MA for a rebuild. Now I just need to figure out how to install it when the weather gets warmer.
