roll cage recommendations for targa?

I recently bought a 1988 targa and I plan to slowly prepare for track days.
I'd like to install a roll cage which ideally will provide protection
and also stiffen the targa somewhat.

Is there a roll cage anyone can recommend which might be a better
choice for the targa body than others? I have been researching
the DAS products a bit, but thought you folks might have
first hand experience and insight.

Glad to be a member. Hope to see you at an event soon.

Send Pete Kaufman an e-mail. He's the president of PCA Potomac He has a full cage in his targa. I'm sure he could give you some guidance.

"Chopper Dropper" on this board DE'd and Raced his targa for years with a cage or roll-bar (I'm forgetting now). Send him a PM (his name is Dirk) as well as one to Pete K.

Chopper Dropper is Dirk Dekker, and I have had my arm twisted over a beer( hey, I never said I wasn't easy) and will regale you with the story when time allows. As to the roll cage. I have a 88 Targa, with no roll cage. If you feel the need to install one for safety, do not let me discourage you. I have seen these rolled down the chute at SP. (Sandy Van Leen) and no structual damage, that built in will protect you very well from a roll over, seats, harness etc being equal. Front or side probably the same as the coupe, again, I would not discourage anyone from adding safety equipment. You may have noticed a very nice clean light Blue Targa parked along the grid lane on Sunday. That's the one that rolled. As for adding stiffness. Yes there is flex in Targas and sometimes you can see it ie jacking up on one corner and trying to open and close doors. I will guarantee that you will not notice the flex whilst driving untill you are beeing spotted by the Talent scouts for Formula 1. HOWEVER, a cage is required for modified cars in PCA race and minimally a roll bar I believe for unmodified in PCA race. Check the rule book available on line at pcapotomac.org or on the national site for the PDA rules for club racing. I never club raced mine but drove it till last year in red run group. Pete Kaufman has a much older Targa and at his age probably feels the need for assistance  Hope this helps with your process.
Dirk
