Not a 911, but brilliant
 

Some may have seen this video by now. I was exceeding lucky to have seen Hans Stuck win in this car twice in the 80's. To my mind, Group C was the pinnacle of motorsport. Wild, seemingly untamable cars whistling around the track. Pure magic.

At it's peak, Group C was the reincarnation of the Can Am at it's peak. We still seem to be waiting for the next reincarnation.

The great thing about Mr. Stuck was after he won a race, his victory/cool-down lap was always a treat. He'd open the door/hatch, undo his belts and lay outside the cockpit and pound the car while waving to the fans. A great show, indeed!

I was at Summit in the mid 80's when Hans won the race in the rain with the all wheel drive Audi. He did his signature yodel on the podium and I have video of it on a vhs somewhere.

Also had the opportunity to see a 962 in pieces at Peter Dawes shop a couple of years back when we stopped there on the way to TechTactics. This pics below are some of the engine pieces that were laying on the cart that he let us examine. The carbon fiber alternator fan, the triple pickup oil pump and the equally unobtanium gear driven cam drive. One of the cam gears was ruined in the engine mishap and had to be made from scratch as I recall.

I last saw Peter (Dawe) about 6 years ago and he wasn't well then. How is he doing? He's such a nice guy (I drove up there to pick up the engine I bought for my black '86 race car).

Also, there was a guy named Wayne (internet riches) who brought what I believe was a 962 to summit Point for our time trials (when we used to have them) and drove around making wonderful noises. I believe he was out on the track with Ivan Arzola but I'm not sure who the other (very fast) driver was. Perhaps Levitas?

Oh, right! He (Wayne Jackson) bought a 917, found he couldn't fit to drive it and bought the Sunoco Porsche. We were at VIR ~2001/2002 (don't remember, getting old. . .) when Wayne fired that 917 up to back out of the trailer, everyone, not on the track, flocked over to see it. an amazing thing to see in the flesh.

I followed Wayne in his 917 up the Esses at VIR, he was not pushing hard, sounded fantastic till he disappeared. He also had a factory race 914/6 there I believe. At Summit Wayne had his Sunoco Porsche and he and Levitas in his Orange Monster did some laps. I believe Wayne was in the low 1:12 pace taking it easy. They also auctioned a ride along in the Sunoco which went for a pretty good price for Charity which a current Instructor, occasional racer bought. Another time he brought a Ferrari (full race car from the 80s I guess) but the power that be would not let him run it as our DEs were Porsche only at the time!!

Some of the best times I EVER had at a track were with Dirk and Tim (Kerns). I know many find this hard to believe, but the stories ranged from the unbelievable to the fantastic. Drinking Scotland's finest didn't help (too much). Great times, indeed!
