1969 616 factory replacement motor FS
4 Attachment(s)
Engine number 4096829 was supplied new in 1977 to Keppouf Porsche, Allentown and fitted to 1966 chassis number 455994 as a replacement. At 50k miles it was removed and replaced by a motor closer in serial to the 1966 original engine. I purchased it as a 'stand by' for my 1969 912 about ten years ago, and stored but never mounted it or refurbished it? Sells as is for $3000 (cash please) and needs to be inspected and collected in Martinsburg, WV. Old Dorki and PCA member, respond via PM to arrange inspection. R/Dave L

Dear Dorkis, any recommendations on moving this engine? I haven't received a single enquiry, but I believe the price is fair for a 616 with history. Do you think I should post the whole story of how this engine was ordered, etc? Your response appreciated! R/Dave L.

Pretty car in the background! Less pretty engine in the foreground. Buyers want to know operating condition. Spins freely? Runs? Or is it really a bunch of unknowns needing a full rebuild?
Where have you been running ads? I imagine these days that the 912/356 buyer pool is kinda small. No idea if price is fair or not, but price and condition need to be close to warrant a sale. Not sure the history is a selling point, unless owned by a celebrity. GLWTS. |
Seconding the notion that the market is small-ish. You probably need national coverage and be willing to ship in order to get a good price in a reasonable time.
Here's a similar motor recently sold on BAT: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...-356-a-engine/ |
59A not same as 69 replacement motor This motor is a good candidate for a 356 driver. Some of the Men in Plaid take the original motor and park in a corner and drive on a late 912 motor.

+1, or would be a good base for a big bore hotrod engine.

Thank you all for your responses! I will extend the range of my ads and do a more complete description of the working order (or not!) of the engine. Luckily I have a good amount of info on the background- just didn't know if that was desired. 356ers probably want the whole story! Right! I'm off to re-draw my sales strategy! Dorki on! R/ Dave
