Anyone know this local car?

Located in Falls Church.

I'm looking for a track car candidate. Been looking at 996s, as well as C5 Corvettes. While I love the bang for the buck performance of the Vette, still have a soft spot for a 911.

Don't recognize the car.

But it is AWD... Not ideal for a track car.

Good point...I missed that in the ad somehow

If the AWD system is similar to the turbo models, all you have to pull is the center driveshaft to make it RWD. You can remove the front diff and axles for weight savings but not necessary. The only real difference left is then the gas tank. AWD ones are a couple gallons smaller as they have a center 'hump' to clear the diff.

I've read that but have no first hand knowledge. Does removing a driveshaft play nice with psm or other traction systems? Is that just abs programming? No dash lights if awd to 2wd converted? Just curious.

The TT guys seemed to report no problems. I thought about doing mine but was lazy. I tell you though, at the track a GT2 would have been nicer for the bigger gas tank alone. Had to fill the TT every session. Can't run two sessions when you are only getting 2-3mpg;)

I have a 2002 C4S converted to RWD by previous owner. I have not driven it hard, yet, but so far haven't noticed anything strange. ABS kicked in and felt normal, when I needed a panic stop. P.O. did tell me that he turned off PSM on track (before and after the conversion) because it would kick in when least expected, but I didn't hear any specifics.

hmm C5 and 996 = Renegade 996 ! http://www.renegadehybrids.com/996/LS-1.html

John Hanna (silver 996 TT, runs as number "1") converted to RWD last year and loves it. He should be at Summit for July DE - ask him.

I have his mobile is someone is interested in talking with him.

Hello - just stumbled on this ... that’s my car :) If you’re in Leesburg the car was quite local to you for a while, the previous owner was in Hamilton.

Give me a holler if you want to know more about it. And yes, the AWD to RWD conversion has been done a lot although not by me  Apparently the AWD shell is stiffer?
