94 968

Going to look at a 94 968 this weekend and was wondering what I should be on the look out for. Car has been maintained according to owner but it does have high miles. I believe around 170000. Any help would be great.

Leaky power steering
Working sunroof
Records for belts and water pump
Records for clutch replacement
Option code sheet
Complete toolkit
Any aftermarket alarms or electronics
Body panel gaps
Paint work

968s are great cars. Share what you learn!

I'd add:
Timing chain pad / tensioner replacement records
De-lamination of rear glass
Power steering pump leaks
Fuel hose (in the engine compartment) replacement (if not consider doing it soon after purchase)

Also check for play in lower ball joints as the 968 lower arms are not rebuildable as easy as the 944 variants and mucho expensive to replace if you want to maintain the lower brake scoop mounts. (there are ways around this if you would need to replace with regular 944 late offset arms)

All of the above are good things to look for. P/S pump is not a deal breaker. I have repaired several of these, many of which were one of the four bolts that bring the two halves together loosens up and it was usually the one that acts as the mount to the bracket.

Recent clutch, water pump, belts, and rollers, and cam chain pads are most important in my opinion.
