Revenue Generating Weekend
The law was sure out in full force this weekend. Between yesterday and today I did 250 miles of engine break-in driving and over the course of those miles I counted 14 police cars, 9 of which had people pulled over.
Since I wasn't pushing the car I didn't have any problems but seeing a State Trooper come up behind me with lights flashing and sirens on sure did bump the old heart rate up a bit (fortunately I was in the right lane obeying the limit and he was after some one well up ahead of me). Roads I traveled were the Toll Road, Greenway, 66, 495, 50, 17, 7, 606, 621 and 601. In reality all the police I saw these 2 days were probably more then were encountered during the first 5 Fun Runs combined. I hope this isn't going to be a trend for the coming driving season ... Anybody else witness the same ??????? |
I did the back road thing today witout seeing any law enforcement. A decidedly Good Thing given the speeds I was travelling. Haven't driven the 911 in a few weeks, and had some oil dye to circulate.
Sure was fun :D |
I just got back from "blow drying" my car after a rinse off... did 50W to 734 to ??? to 7 to home... got a little lost. In 60 miles of driving, I only saw 1 trooper and he was busy writing a ticket.
I'd like to think this year will be no different than last, when it comes to police presence. :D |
Definitely a lot of law enforcement presence this weekend. On the way down to VIR Friday evening, I got stopped by a sheriff's deputy along 58 (I think it is) between I-85 and South Boston. Officer said he clocked me doing 73 in a 55 and asked if I had "a family emergency or something." I was honest and respectful. The guy ran a check on me and the car, shined his light around the car a bit, then let me off with a warning to slow down. I did. And was very appreciative.
Charlie and I tried to keep it close to the legal limit on the way home Sunday up 29 and were glad we did when we saw all those LE cars. Bill |
Rt 7 was pretty active this afternoon, as was I66 west of Manassas. Lu and I weren't pushing it, though, as we saved our fun for the smaller (and twistier) roads. It was a lot of fun when combined with a stoll around Harpers Ferry and a movie when we got back home. I pay too much in taxes to want to feed the troopers any extra $$$.
Lu and i saw a 911 that looked a lot like your car, Doug. We received the flash and responded in kind. :D |
Jim - yes, that was me ... I thought it might have been you as well. Those 2 Loudon County patrol cars sure were hidden well in the median (just after we passed each other).
Glad to hear a few other 911's were out this weekend. |
I was out on the back roads this weekend (50,17,606 , 601 and others), I must have just missed you. I live out here and drive these roads daily for work. It was the most police I have ever seen in one day (Sunday) . My V1 flat out paid for itself in one encounter on 50 (Yes, I have gotten a $400 ticket before, so I know). I was so shaken I went home and put the car away.

Looks like a few of us were cruising 606 along the Shenandoah River. Nice twisties and a river view...gotta love it.
