Is it worth removing ballast weight?
My 993 has two huge plates bolted to the floor on the passenger side. I am guessing they are 80+ pounds each, possibly more. They probably outweigh me. For this year, I am only planning on doing DE with the car. I need to adjust the passenger seating position and am considering removing the ballast while I can reach it.
I don't think I need to have the car corner balanced - do I? I can tell a slight difference in handling with or without an instructor as additional weight in some places or conditions. Removing the weight seems like a win until I look at Club Racing. Are there any other issues to consider before removing the weights? I plan to keep the ballast plates and bolts. |
Ken,
I did notice them moving a little under my feet on our awesome outing at Shenandoah and meant to ask you about why they were there. I see no reason to leave them whether to get the car realigned is up to you but it would make a difference on all four corners. |
If you plan on club racing get the car to the correct weighted for the class......thats what they are there for
It's better to get used to the car at the correct weight as it does make a difference......better to learn to drive it that way I think If no club racing.....take em out.....send the weight back to Intersport. |
If you plan on racing at some point your car needs to weigh 3050 with you in it. It would be nice to get used to driving it for a season at that weight. If DE is the only thing in your future make it as light as possible. Lighter=faster and more fun.

agree with others on running car t CR weight if CR in your future. Have car corner balanced either way.

Pretty sure Charlie has that car just right at some point, I am really surprised the weights have moved at all, Charlie is smart enough to use big bolts and surface area to secure these things
Point proven in my yellow car......had well over 100lbs in there and they stayed put and really didn't even shift. That's was 3 high G hits in multiple directions, |
