911sc Tear Down report - Day 1 (SCARRY Pictures)

Well I started tearing down the 911sc engine this afternoon. I removed the CIS, Fan, Exhaust, etc. The Damage to the engine started to become apparent after removing the CIS. All of the damage seems to be on #5, but I will know for sure after I pull the heads off.

Has anyone seen damage like this before? The consensus seems to be that the engine was over revved however the PO's son (who was driving the car at the time the engine blew) swears that he was around 4K when it blew.

I have a couple of the pictures posted below, to see the rest check out:

I'd just like to get in that kid's head for one second to see how he did that to that car in just one year. Sheesh. Then I'd probably have to run out of it to escape the ricer mentality  Good luck with it, hope it's not too bad off for ya. After meeting some of the 'guys' this weekend I think you're in good hands w/ this project though.

Ouch!

Suddenly, I don't feel so bad about my motor problems.

What is the game plan? Would you just replace this one cylinder, piston, rod and keep on trucking, what does the cam look like?

Some kids are unlucky others inattentive. It's in our genes. Some monkeys, whey they learned to walk upright, ran to the next tree. Others ambled along and never looked for the lions! :?

Eric:

I've seen broken rockers like that all to often after "someone" has overrevved the engine.

I think you have your work cut out for you. Are you diasassembling for the learning experience or are you going to repair and replace and run in your 914? (this SC, or another car?).

Gruesome photos

Ouch - sorry to see those man.

You have any better luck on day 2 ?

Eric:

Here is what a crank looks like after an overrev, broken valves tumbling and a truly f#$%^ up rod. 3.2 crank that is not savable. Driver didn't shut down engine and continued ALL THE WAY back around the track to the pits.

I am sure yours won't look like this. :)
