Did that in the Koi pond 2 years ago. It is a neat effect.

So do the fish regularly swim up into the aquarium part, or does the novelty wear off for them?

Don't fish have like a 6 sec. memory reset?? I know when our kids were young and I'd take them fishing on a lake they'd often catch the same fish in just a mater of minutes.

They treat it just like the rest of the pond. Is a real attraction to have during a party but it is a bit of work to keep clean and air free. Am going to set up a leftover 10 gal in a pond that is populated with fancy goldfish this spring. (The Koi won't fit and be able to turn in a 10 gal) You need a good base that is stable, level and strong. The pictured one is on CMU blocks. I have liner ponds and make the base from PVC with polycarbonate feet to prevent punctures.

Kid: Dad! I caught another fish! Now I'm winning our fishing contest! Yay!
Dad: Um.... That's the same fish so that doesn't count. Put him back. I'm still winning...
Kid: Oh, man! That fish is sure dumb... Weird how I didn't put him back the last ten times and now the basket if full yet I just keep catching him!
Dad: Kid, you going to be rocket scientist one day. I can just tell.

Son works at SpaceX so....

Daughter won contest for most caught (w/stick and line over side of boat). Wasn't hard to tell which had been caught before. Most were to small to keep. Caught more than once ended up being to damaged to be thrown back. Bigger ones ended up fried for breakfast, undersized ones used as Indian fertilizer in garden or bait.

Its as if I KNEW that! :)
