Auto Insurance procedure question in Virginia

I have purchased a 97 328is which was recently in an accident. Insurance company considered the car a total loss. PO was told the car would have a salvaged title. However, when asked if Insurance adjuster was going to submit a VSA form 58 (owner retained late model or water damaged vehicle), he stated that it was up to the owner to deal with DMV. Hence it doesn't sound like he is going to submit anything to DMV.
I don't really care about the branding, just trying to avoid the hassle and cost of getting a salvage title. Plus the car can be repaired, even though I likely will just repair it myself if i can (truck pull method).

Does anyone know if the insurance company does something else which would result in the car being identified to DMV as having been considered a total loss and should be considered salvaged (like is there a salvage data base)?
Just want to ensure I am ready when I go to DMV to get it registered.

thanks in advance...tito

For info in case anyone has an interest:

The VSA 58 defines a salvage vehicle. Must apply when car is greater than 10K value and less than 6 years old. Otherwise it can apply if desired by ins company or owner. In this case Ins company wasn't going to submit paperwork to salvage...and owner also isn't going to.

There is a data base where all vehicles that are totaled get entered into, but that doesn't directly mean it is a branded salvage.

as is, got it registered and plates with no hassle of salvage requirement.
