I cant be the only one..
I don't think there are many things more enjoyable than driving in snow.
There is nothing like tossing on some snow tires on the beater and taking to the abandoned streets to hone your skills. My wife thinks i'm an idiot but the first chance I get im out the door. My dad was a nut about driving in the snow with his old squareback and once I was old enough to drive he made sure I was good to go when driving in it. There is something about the man vs nature bit of it all that gets the blood pumping. |
yup! right there with ya.

I hear you, but snow tires take away a lot of the fun. Got to play in the office parking lot late yesterday afternoon after everyone else had left. Had the wife's mini-SUV. Was still quite capable of doughnuts

Endless skid pad for sure. When I was much younger my buddies and I would go over to the FSU parking lots and have road course dirt track races in the snow. I knew one of the campus police guys and they would sit and watch us for a while. They would come back about half hour later and flash the lights which was our signal to scram. Then it was off to the high school entrance to practice doing bootleg J-turns with the hand brake. Those days are gone.....

I took private drivers Ed in 1982 in the winter here in NoVa with snow. My instructor had a Plymouth Horizon with dual controls. We would head out on some back roads and he would stomp on the brakes to help me figure out what to do. I practiced driving in my dad's 75 Honda Civic (4 speed). Great winter car even with tiny wheels.

All our kids got drivers ed training in snowing parking lots. Lots of fun and seems to have done some good. Though 2 now live in the lower CA elevations.
We did point out to them that the basics were good for rain too. Seems the newer all wheel ABS would make it easier for the asses but limit the actual development of skills. |
Out in my truck last night was fun to drift w/ 4wd on. Not for long and only going ~20 but still fun.

Got out this afternoon. DON"T DO THAT!
Got stuck myself 3x and helped three other vehicles get unstuck around town too. What's worse was the pub was closed when I got there. ;) Attachment 49901 For once I'll hand it to mother nature in DC. And I'll shake my fists at the #$#@% Plows who blocked me out of my side street! :grrr: whelp got me a shoveling job in the morning. :bang: |
Feh, been driving in it since 1 am Sat. Just got home and have the worst set of sea legs.....

back in the 80's I had a Karmann Ghia and whenever it snowedI would take it out and see how far I could slide sideways and still make the left turn onto the next street. Before I ever heard of something called drifting! Even funnier was my friend who had a 73 Grand Fury station wagon with a 440 (it was almost as long as a school bus). He would take the turn right up the street from my slide turn and he would purposely 360 the entire car while drifting through the turn. Man we used to laugh so hard - until my mother saw us doing that from the kitchen window.Missed a fire hydrant with the back bumper by about 3 inches one time. Trashy punks!.
