Orange new post "Bells"

Geoffrey / Charlie:

Is there any reason why the new post markers (orange bells?) on the main page all move to "been viewed / read" or grey after entering a topic and then a sub-topic, reading the new post there on a thread and then returning to the main page?

Here is what I normally do: When I come to the site I open one of the topics (e.g technical questions), the orange markers are there (as well as on the main page) Then, I open the sub-topic and read the thread and stay in that sub-topic (by moving forward and backwards with the browser controls)

The problem: When I return to the main forum from inside the sub-topic (by clicking on "The Land of NoVA/DC/MD..."), all of the orange markers have turned grey. If, at this point I click top right on read new posts since last visit it returns they are all read.

Do we have to back out of each thread and message we read by using the browser forward and back buttons to get back to the main menu and keep the remaining new post markers from disappearing there? I am assuming that whenever I click on "The Land of NoVA/DC/MD..." it reloads the main page and none of the post are now new, whether I previously read them or not.

I haven't changed what I do to read and navigate since moving to the new server so I thought this might be something new. This did not happen to me on the old server.

Thanks

Jason

Jason,

It was working ok for me this morning. I read this thread as it was marked new 'orange' on the main page, then hit the "The Land of NoVA/DC/MD" link to return home. This thread greyed out as it has been read, but the other post I have not read yet still showed as new 'orange'.

Is this something thats been happening frequently? I've seen this happen sometimes when I'm logged in but stay idle for long periods of time. Best to stay active and log out when done.

Let me know if it continues to happen.
