Cracked Windshield

I just found that my windshield is cracked just above the mirror. I've had the windshields replaced on two other 997's at a local shop. They put the first one in noticeably crooked. Then on my GT3, they dropped the windshield corner on the roof and dented the car. :bang:

I don't really want Safelite doing the work though. There are too many gizmos that have to be attached and detached on and around the windshield in order for it to be replaced by someone who doesnt know what they are doing.

Would prefer someone near Harford County, MD. Who would you trust?
Would a Porsche dealer do this work and take payment from my insurance company?

Call Europros to see if they will do just a windshield.

I had my windshield replaced this past November at Porsche of Silver Spring. They didn't do the work themselves, but called in a glass guy that they use for this type of work, who did it at their location. I was okay with that, since I'd rather have a guy who had done lots of Porsches do my windshield, rather than someone used to doing Hondas and Toyotas. Did a nice job, although I did have to go back for a minor follow-up (an antenna clip/attachment came loose).

The final bill was slightly less than the original quote. They do not take insurance directly, which they told me up front, so I had to file a claim with my insurance company (USAA) afterward. Safelite runs USAA's glass program, and apparently wasn't too happy about not getting the job, but they paid the claim right away.

Yeah - given all the stuff in the front windshield, I go with the dealer.

From what I have seen most Dealers use outside service but the dealer has control of the install vendor, OE parts used and stands behind the work and parts. As said the new glass is far from just a sheet of glass in a rubber gasket. Windshield work now more than ever is a skilled trade of its own. Very easy to mess up the car, the glass or the final function.
