looking for a good dyno shop
 

Hi guys,
Can anyone recommend a good shop to get a baseline dyno run done on my 930? ---the standard 3 pulls for example.

Looking for someplace with personnel that knows the car well to assist possibly with a little ignition tweaking between engine pulls or at least allow me to do this between pulls. I am not looking to drop a pile of money on tuning the car for hours.

I am located around North East, MD so closer to home is optimal. More important is the quality of the shop personnel and the cost.

SSI Motorsports is another good Porsche shop with a dyno. They're on the NE side of Baltimore, so may be reasonably convenient to you.

Good to know. I wasnt aware sloan had a dyno.

X3 on Behe but consider that what he does may be different from what you're expecting. He has a dynamic dyno, that can check HP/torque at various levels and ranges, not just with a standard pull. It hooks directly to your wheels, and enables him to do much more efficient dyno tuning. Sure, he can do a regular dyno run, but he can do much more.

If you had a DME, he could emulate a chip so can make rapid changes while the car is on the dyno. On my race car, he found multiple issues including a board that didn't match the DME box, and a chip that didn't match the board or the DME (or my engine), and burned me a new custom chip.

He also found issues with my injectors, fuel pressure regulator, wires, and more. Parts were not cheap and labor was typical P-car range. Chip bought me 15 HP. The other stuff another 7 HP. Total increase >10%!! Yes, it is noticeable. :D :D :D

I've not used him for dyno services, but he mentions it on his website. If not his, he probably is partnering with a shop. He does a lot of good racer work, so whatever arrangment he has is probably worthwhile. I looked at his website because I thought he might be somewhat convenient to North East MD.

Behe is a genius with engine computers/tuning. Can't say enough good things about him. He fixed a number of tuning issues on my 3.4 986 engine swap, including an intermittent electrical issue that was causing misfires under hard left corners. Spent many hours troubleshooting and only charged me for about half the time he spent trying to find the problem.

Yeah this wheel based dyno is exactly what I was looking for as its more accurate than the standard roll-ons. Plus like you mentioned its a lot better at tuning from the reasons you stated. Its just not a lot of guys have such a set up.
I will check him out and start saving my pennies.

Besides John Behe, there is Mike Levitas near Jessup at TPC. Might be closer for you.

Unfortunately, Sloan doesn't have his dyno anymore. He sold it a couple of years ago to a guy named Frank Smith, who also happens to be a tuner in the area and also recommended to me by Sloan for my 87 911. Sloan's dyno was a Dynamax which requires the drive wheels to be taken off as mentioned in a previous post. Very nice, I had a chance to use it once with the Cayman.
