dashboard help
i'm new to this board so thanks in advance ! i have an 83 sc with a trashed dash. i have a few questions:
1. does anyone know where i can get a used one in decent shape - vinyl ok (i've looked around with no luck) 2. if i was to buy a new one (ouch) does anyone know where i can get it discounted ? 3. i've gotten all the nuts off for the removal of the dash except the 2 directly on the left and right side of the glove box, i cant figure out how to get at these to get them off. if someone knows how specifically to get at these the knowledge would be much appreciated. thanks... |
Welcome to the board! I'll leave it to Dr. K to fill you in on the obligitory introductions, pictures, etc.
Now to your dash. The stories of ill fittting new dashes are legendary, even if they are claimed to be NOS. I believe the best approach, and one that i'm going to do is to refurbish your existing dash. Couple of companies come to mind, Just Dashes www.justdashes.com/ and Classic Nine Leather www.classic9leathershop.com . It's not cheap, but less expensive than a new dash, and you know it will fit. In 101 Projects for your 911 has a chapter on dash removal. Your welcome to borrow it. |

Been a LONG while but I recall some (most?) of the nuts you have to get to through the front trunk. Disassembling stuff up there to gain access isn't too hard. I also recall the glass has to come out to get a dash out?

The dash on my 85 was removed and replaced without removing the glass. There are a few screws that are a massive beatch to get with the glass in place, but it can be done.
