Truck Tires
 
Need new tires for my truck, anyone have a good or bad experience lately? Looking for on/offroad options, like the Bridgestone Dueler AT, Firestone Destination or Michelin LTX. Perfect world is quiet, decent grip and hauling capacity. I'm thinking about moving up a weight range considering how I use the truck.

Between 2 Suburbans and several 15 passenger Vans, I've come to the conclusion that spending the extra money on Michelin LTX's is just the best way to go. I've tried a variety of other brands/models, and was never as thoroughly satisfied as what the LTX's delivered. The M/S tires are the best compromise for all around needs. The AT's look "cooler", and will peform better off road, but they won't last as long on paved roads. And I believe the M/S tires perform better in the rain, and are definitely quieter.

Get the highest load range you can afford. The extra plies in the tread and sidewall make them more durable. I've put 10's of thousands of miles on them, and have never had a blow-out, except for once. My backup driver misjudged a corner, in my E-350 15-passenger Van, and hit the broken concrete curbing on the outside of the corner, and tore the sidewall of the tire open. I doubt that any tire would have survived that.

On my 275/R16 Load Range E tires, I typically get at least 60,000 miles out of them.

I have the Michelin LTX AT on my 2002 F350 crew cab. The 7.3 diesel makes so much noise, that road noise from the tires is not noticeable. (So, don't know if the tires make a lot of noise or not, and don't care).

The tires are rated for 60,000 miles and I have not had them for too long, do don't know how long they will last. However, they are great in the snow and driving through my yard.

I'm happy I went with the LTX AT, especially when snow is predicted or happening. I have a plow for my truck, and these tires are fantastic in the snow!

Lifespan isnt really a concern for me but traction and capacity are. I bet the truck will fall apart before 60k more miles but who knows. Thanks again, very helpful.

Been pretty happy with Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor on the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

I really like my BFG AT's. I've had a couple sets and as long as you are diligent about regulating tire pressures and rotating at appropriate intervals they last. If you neglect them they go pretty quick.

I've been happy with Nitto Terra Grapplers AT on my Xterra as a relatively cheap option, but I haven't towed with it. Not quiet, but not noticably noisier than the BFG on-road tires that were on it before.

FWIW, I will further qualify my statements that I'm recommending Michelin LTX's for big, heavy vehicles, like 2500 Suburbans and full size Vans. These trucks weigh-in close to 7,000 lbs, and put quite a stress on tires. I believe for smaller vehicles/SUV/small pickups, there are probably more dependable tire options available. But for these heavier, full size trucks, the tire market is smaller, and IMHO, Michelin's LTX's just seem to have the edge in term of combined ride quality, durability, load capacity, longevity, traction and noise. And I'm sure that LTX's long history (they've been around at least 20 years) doesn't hurt.

+ 1-gajillion in the Michelin LTX M/S tires.

Have had two sets on my Suburban and also run on other F250s, Duallies, C/K2500s.

Excellent tread life, feel, low noise and good grip (dry/wet).
