It's back: Winter Karting League 2014

The good news: there seemed to be a great deal of interest at the DE this past weekend for the karting league.

The needs-improvement news: I haven't done anything to plan it yet.

In case you missed it last year, here's a link to the original thread. Last year, every event was held at All Sports Grand Prix in Sterling, VA, and I think we'll continue this: they are lenient with the rules, not overly commercial, and are very supportive to us.

As an added twist, I'm also thinking of scheduling in a couple "away" events: one to Summit Point Kart Track and the other to the place in Jessup, MD. Should make for a fun change of pace.

I think the overall format last year worked very well (this is a copy/paste from the original thread):
_______1) First event will kick off on Monday, Jan 21. Timeframe is 7-9pm (this is non-negotiable). First car on track by 7:15ish.
_______2) The events will be Bi-Weekly, on Mondays.
_______3) There will be eight events, with the possibility of a ninth (stay tuned).
_______4) All participants will pay a flat fee for the entire season. <-- This is a big deal. Season cost will be $400 per person.
_______5) Each driver will be competing for points.
_______6) There will be an end-of season dinner where the top five finishers will receive trophies.
_______7) The race format is currently up in the air, but will contain a qualifying session for each person, followed by at least two races per person. Max participants is capped at 30.
_______8) All friends of PCA'ers are welcome to join. The more the merrier; the only way to do this is to get as much interest as possible.

Last year, as many of 30 different people showed up over the course of the "season". That said, on any given night the attendance was closer to half that figure. Worked great for seat time but the more people we have, the closer the competition will be!

There will be three weight classes to help normalize the competition.

So: who's in? Consider this post a feeler to determine an approximate starting size of the league. I'll be asking for email addresses at a later date.

I'm in and have another person outside PCA/Dork who might be interested.

And what's the cut-off point for the "Grande" class? I want to drop some weight but not overdo it.

Ha -- that'll get defined the day everyone weighs in! Essentially:

1) Take everyone's weight and divide everyone into three equal-numbered groups.
2) That's it.

In other words, you could find yourself in the smallest class if there are enough big 'uns!

Missed last year due to work, definitely in this year.

How old do you need to be in order to participate? My 16 yo son Patrick has expressed interest.

Yes, oh yes. If the league allows I may one or two others at work who would be interested.

All racers MUST have a valid drivers license to race, unless they attend our 2-day Kids Racing School. No permits accepted.
