Refinishing Fuchs
Anyone decent around? I have heard of the Wheel Shop (?) near Baltimore and Wheelworx (location?), but I don't know anything about them. I want something like the original factory finish but don't feel like shipping that much weight and bulk.
|
David,
I took a friend to Wheelworx a couple weeks ago to get his BMW rim fixed (bent). I asked them about refinishing Fuchs (polishing and clearcoating). After hearing 2 guys bicker about the best procedure for polishing/clearcoating Fuchs, either they take their Fuchs very seriously, or they don't know s***. At $120 per wheel, its way cheaper to send to Al Reed. BTW: His bimmer wheel did turn out pretty nice. |
David,
Ye Olde Wheel Shoppe does excellent work (off Rt. 100 near Baltimore) And their prices are very fair. However, the owner is a real first class ***hole. Maybe you'll have better luck.. If you're serious about going there, send me a PM - and i'll give you some advice on how to avoid an unpleasurable experience. |
David,
I sent a pair to Al Reed to restore to factory finish. Shipping is $40 each way, including $1000 insurance (these are early 6x15 Fuch). Al charged $105 per wheel. At this moment they're in UPS custody on their way home. I'll post pictures after they arrive. You're welcome to come by for a closer look. Greg |
Sounds great. How did you pack them?

David,
I posted before/after pictures of Al Reed's amazing work on Pelican. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showt...hreadid=102732 Give me a call if you want to come by and see them up close. |
So Greg, it cost $185 per wheel, including shipping?
|
Jim, $105 per wheel, plus shipping (~$40 each way). $290 total.

Aaah, thanks for straightening me out. Not bad for such a great result.
