Chevy Tahoe Experience
Dorki's,
I'm considering buying a used Chevy Tahoe (2008). I know a couple folks that have really liked theirs, but never kept it for long enough to let me know about longevity...over 100k miles. So, anyone have one with high mileage and what has been your experience. I don't want to feel that I have to unload it before 100k miles. Thanks, -Skip |
My Chebby is older but I think the same rules apply. Not the best interiors but they work. Good engines. Stay on top of trans fluid changes. It's not uncommon to replace a fuel pump or two and a trans at ~130k. Again, keep fluid fresh and make sure you have a cooler if you pull a load.
There are tons of these trucks out there, dont settle. Good luck. |
x2 what Chris said. Fuel pump and trans anytime after 100K. Trans rebuild cost me $1700, fuel pump parts and labor $800. Also brake lines are prone to rusting out.

Jason has had his for years and many miles. Serach on Jase007 for tech tips and adventures.

Also good point on brake lines. I replaced mine this past year. Again, not a bad job, just takes a few hours but a lift if very helpful. |
Thanks Guys, sounds like there aren't any reasons to run the other way from the idea.

Keep in mind the Tahoe has, I believe, 110" wheelbase. Towing a load works better with a longer wheelbase (Explorer and Durango have 119, pickups and Suburban have more).

Yes, but still better than the current tow vehicle - jeep grand Cherokee which has no issues with the Trailex aluminum trailer.
Thanks, |
2002 Yukon purchased 2 years ago w/ 140K on it. I've replaced the fuel pump already, and am now pimping 167K w/ no issues. Will do the driveline this winter. It's towed to Mid-O, WG, SP and VIR with no issues (16 ft. steel trailer with tire rack). It's no truck, but it serves my purposes.
Now that I've made this statement, something will happen soon. |
Thanks Rob, hopefully you have knocked on some wood.
