tire fitment help
Does anyone have any junk tires in 245/16 that they want to get rid of or would someone be willing to allow me to bolt them onto my car to test the fit? I am about to buy track tires for my car and want to see if they will fit. I just finished all of my projects and my car now sits lower than I had thought it would so it looks like it will work but I'm not 100% certain. I just want to bolt them on to see if the size fits under the wheel well if they are already mounted on rims and if they are junk tires that you are getting rid of I will pick them up and dispose of them for you. So, if anyone can help out, great, I would be very appreciative. Thanks in advance.

A voice from the past! What kind of tires are you planning on? Hoosiers and RA-1s have different profiles. I have a corded RA-1 from this past weekend, and probably have another. I don't have spare Hoosiers but easier for you would probably be to borrow full wheel-tire combos and try it out. I haven't heard of anyone having problems with that size on the back of a Carrera, but some people (other than me) have been able to squeeze 245s into the front...
I can loan you wheels with RA-1s. |
I was planning on 225/245 RA1s or Pilot Sport Cups.

245 anything will fit out back of Carrera/SC on 8s or 9s. 225s up front are a little iffy depending on TB size and camber. I have RA1s and Hoos on 8s and 9s if you want tocheck fitment. Should be home all weekend and most evenings. PM me if interested.

At at 1/3 the distance from you (Potomac, MD), I have RA-1s in 225/245 on 7s and 9s (Fuchs) and 7s and 8s (might be 9s--don't remember) BBS wheels. You're welcome to try fitment. NOTE: these are all somewhat worn, so might be a smidge smaller than new but should give you a very good idea. PM me if you're interested and I'll send you directions and my mobile phone number.

Usually the tightest fit is the 225-50-16 on the drivers side front corner. As TR mentioned, ride height, torsion bars, driver weight etc will impact fitment. What "projects" did you do to the car?
Worst case is a gentle roll of the fender lips up front (that was the case with my SC) |
Gentle?? I had to roll my fenders for 205s, and roll them a lot more for 225s, with camber set to -2 degrees at that time. The current car is really low, so the fenders are "rolled" flat against themselves.

Dave, all I really did was fix a car weight balance issue and alignment. Unfortunately it took doing some upgrades to the suspension making it alot more adjustable to get the car to corner balance and properly align. My problem now lies in matching a set of track tires to a track suspension set up.
DR, if for whatever reason it doesn't work out with Peter, I'll get in touch with you and make the trek across the river. Thank you for willing to help me. |
Michael -- I run 225/245 on my Targa. It's lowered a bit and has 22/30 TBs and revalved Bilsteins.
Front wheel wells have pretty tightly rolled lips. I have a slight rub on the outside edge of passenger-side front wheel well. Just enough to make a thin stripe partway through the tread, but does not get anywhere near the depth of the reinforcing. I use 7.5" 1-piece BBS wheels on the fronts. |
