Some at the track yesterday had this setup. }{ did this for years back when he actually went to the track with success. Don't you live close enough to the track now you can just go home to change tyres :p
|
towards the end I started doing this just with 2 tires laid flat and stashing the others inside. made for better aero

If you leave the trunk open, you won't even realize the roof gutters being torn off ;)
I'd guess they are good for 100-150lbs. |
Didn't }{ have a frame to hold the 4 tires in one plane? I think Andrew F has one, too, although don't know if he's ever used it...

}{ has carried 4 on the roof, so has forklift, and I have a basket that I use to hold 4 tires.... only almost came off once. :)

I've also carried 4 on the roof several times without issue. I put the bars closer together and stand all 4 up vertically. Wind resistance was noticeable at highway speeds though, so laying them flat is likely the better method.
