IMS Recommendations/Thoughts
I am thinking of the LN IMS Retrofit.
I have a 2004 C2 (cabriolet) - standard shift with 75k miles I bought about a year ago. Porsche dealer did the PPI - indicated seal was "moist" but normal for age and mileage. I don't have any drips, but I am noticing more wetness. Does anyone have an recommendations or thoughts about? |
Read your pleats before you make any decisions. Engine may have troubles.

no downside to doing it except the cost. worth it for peace of mind alone. combine it with a new clutch.

I am just not sold on this. This guy started doing this just a couple of years ago and there is no long term proof that this is a permanent fix. If his IMS upgrade is still rolling 4 years from now then I will be impressed. Also just doesn't make sense to me that some "guy " came up with a better part for these cars than a team of engineers from Porsche. Some of the common factors it seems with failure in these engines is lack of driving ( low miles ) , Driven like a pansy ( engine lugged ) and oil changed at the ridiculous level that is recommended ( 15k ). I've got 82k on my cabriolet so so far so good.
Then again as Cliff says sounds like it couldn't hurt and if it gives you piece of mind you can't put a price on that. |
Thanks for the thoughts, I'll change the oil and read the pleats first.
I don't think I have any engine issues - runs very well (smooth and lots of power), I have put at least 6k mies on so far. I'll let you know if I find anything. |

12K - I hear thats just a tune up on a Ferrari...
What oil do you all recommend? Porsche uses 0W40 Mobil 1 But I have heard many people use 5W40 instead. I checked owners manual - it appears outdated |
0w40 Mobile one.
