Is 6.0 litre Ford diesel a good motor ?
The slope gets slipperier. My new enclosed trailer is on the way and I am
thinking of selling the Navigator and moving over to a 2004 Excursion diesel for towing. Anyone have experience with the 6.8 litre motor ? looks like the 7.3 is a no brainer but not to sure about the 6.8. |
Gary Church had one. People on RL rave about their Excursion diesel when asked. How big a trailer? I think max tow capacity is not unlike F150 as chasis is the same and the limiting factor. Why not buy a truck with quad cab? It gives you all the comfort of a SUV+ more utility and not any/much larger if size is a factor in your decision.

Edit: Only gripe about a short bed diesel is you get stiffed on the big gas tank (28 vs 38gal iirc). Couldn't make it to VIR w/o stopping:) |

Any reason the dog can't ride up front? :)

If it were up to me I'd have a pick up truck tomorrow. |
If buying 2002-2008? Diesel Ford you might want to make sure this has been taking care. Will cost over 6K and waranty will not cover.

Are you talking about the 6.0 that came right after the 7.3? The 6.8 is the newest and never came in an Excursion. The new trucks w/it are crazy. Lots of great tech mods and the fuel economy is rediculous. Many testers have seen north of 30 mpg. And, I'll take Ford's engine/transmission reliability anyday over GM or Dodge (although, if the 2 got together and offered the Cummins w/the Allison, yummm!)
FWIW, I've been tactfully attempting to get Rebecca to consider trading the F-250 and Pilot in for a crew cab 2011 F-250 diesel. No luck, so far. |
Another option would be to buy a 6.0, wait for a problem and use the excuse to instal a Cummins. Just a thought.
