fuel - oil level gauge problem
There is problem in the fuel - oil level gauge in my 84 911. When you turn the key, the fuel gauge starts moving up until the red empty sign and stops there (even if I have fuel in the tank). The oil level gauge shows the oil level, ok, but sometimes it acts weirdly and bounces from bottom to top couple of times and then shows the level correctly for some time. It makes some noise while bouncing. What might be the problem for these two?

Fuel sending unit on its way out?
Not sure about the oil level gauge issues. Bad sender as well? |

Not uncommon for the oil sender to go bad from dirt etc. Also, never rely on the dash display for oil level. Check oil with warm motor on level ground with the dipstick.
Sounds like a bad fuel sender/connections. |
hmm ok I will check those.. If anything goes wrong, I will be here :)
thanks guys. |
Kagan,
You can pull the fuel sender and clean it up before you replace it...there is a write up for doing that on pelican...the oil sender is not the greatest...they definitely go bad...once you clean it up and if it doesnt work, plan to replace during your next oil change...easy replacement...but as was stated above...best to check the oil every gas up until you get a sense of how much oil you might be burning. |
