I didn't come across this until yesterday, but Potomac recently lost a long-time friend:


Stanley Chickering StantonAuto Salesman

Stanley Chickering "Chick" Stanton, 71, a former Porsche sports car salesman, died Dec. 7 at Hilltop House assisted living facility in Winchester, Va. He had Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases and lived most recently in Purcellville.
Mr. Stanton was born in Washington, grew up in Arlington and graduated from Washington-Lee High School. He served in the Army in Germany from 1959 to 1962 and was a manager of finance companies in Silver Spring and Woodbridge early in his career.
Because of his lifelong interest in sports cars, Mr. Stanton became a Porsche salesman at Heishman Porsche Audi in Arlington in 1971. He retired in 2006.
Mr. Stanton had a competitive racing license from the Sports Car Club of America and twice participated in the Sea-to-Shining Sea Memorial Trophy Dash, popularly known as the Cannonball Run. While practicing for the 1975 coast-to-coast race, he and a co-driver turned in their fastest time: 36 hours, 45 minutes.
Mr. Stanton also competed in the "One Lap of America" rally in the early 1980s, completing a 9,000-mile circuit around the perimeter of the continental United States in one week.
He was a member of the Potomac Founders' Region of the Porsche Club of America and helped start its driver education program. Among the several Porsches he owned, his favorite was a silver 1975 Carrera.
He lived in McLean until 2006, when he moved to Purcellville.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Katherine Stanton of Purcellville; two children, Matthew Stanton of Rehoboth Beach, Del., and Kasey Hyman of Bluemont, Va.; a sister; and four grandchildren.

I had his son Matt as a DE instructor a few years ago. He is mainly a racer (914) and doesn't attend many DEs. Great instructor though, as it's always nice to get the racer point-of-view. He's also a salesman at Audi of Alexandria.

Sounds like a great guy. RIP.

Sorry to hear about Chick. I never met him but it sounds like we are benefitting from his PCA work.

I think I used to work with his son Matt at Electrodyne in the late 80's. The "Matt" I worked with had an orange 914 with GT flares. May have been a 6-cyl. Nice guy if its him.

Sorry to hear. Chick sold me a new 944 when they first came out, then the Porsche sale network kept selling it to somebody else. Had to cancel the order due to expiring investment tax credit provisions. Bought a 5.0 4 Speed Mustang. Chick was a good salesman and I felt well served by him. RIP

Side note. The 1978 SC I just bought was originally sold by Chick back in 78.

That Matt is Chick's son; I think he lives in Rehobeth now. He had his 2.7 914-6 at Rennsport Reunion III, and was parked about 50 feet away from me in the paddock.

I spoke to Chick on the phone several times when I was looking to buy my 1st 911. He was passionate about Porsche's and gave me a lot of advice. I ended up buying a used 911SC from Heishmans partly due to several failed PPI's from private sellers and partly based on the courtesy extended by Chick. He had a xerox copy of an article pasted up on the wall about SC's making it to 200k miles.

I always swore if I bought a new Porsche it would be from him! Many years ago he heard me whining about not being able to find a new dizzy cap for the ’71. He immediately offered me a new old stock cap he had at home… for free! Still use it (still can’t find replacements) RIP old “friend” :(

Wow, I never met the guy but sounds like a true gentleman. May we all be remembered fondly.

Chick was a true gentleman. When we ordered our Cayenne S in 2004 for Euro Delivery the salesman who closed the deal left PoA just before the car was built, and the sales manager assigned Chick to complete the process for us. Chick was a pleasure to work with. And his son Matt moved over from Audi of Alexandria to PoA a couple months later and worked out the final details for when the car was delivered at PoA.

The Stanton family are a class act. RIP, Chick.
