Attorney for quick consultation: VA landlord/tenant, mold
I own a house with my father and sister. We recently (19 Oct) rented it to a young couple, one of whom is asserting extreme allergy to mold in the 100 year old house. Long story short, after a series of reasonable-sounding phone conversations & my request to apply mold disinfectants I received a demand for termination of the lease and payment of their moving expenses.
Looking urgently to speak this weekend with a VA attorney familiar with laws applicable to this situation, with a goal of understanding the broader situation. This would be purely for background info but certainly billable. Email me at ejd (at) devinney.com or call - 540-454-5384. Thanks in advance. Ed Devinney |
Good movie to watch over the weekend: Pacific Heights
Sorry about your problem. |
Resolution: Tenants moved out this weekend (2 weeks after moving in). Basically we gave an early termination of the lease in exchange for a general release of claims. I should get the results Monday of air testing done last week and will respond accordingly before re-renting - probably just a duct cleaning. I certainly learned a lot in the last couple weeks...

Glad it resolved itself quickly. Hopefully you won't lose more then a month in rent!
