How to Mount Optima Battery

I broke down and bought an Optima Battery to replace my leaking "Autocraft".

Anyone have any good ideas on how to mount this thing? I have A/C so its not going in the Smuggler's box.

BTW, I bought it from Steven's Battery Warehouse 8220 Ritchie Hwy. His price was $135 plus $10 trade in. Autozone was $149 with a trade in or more without. Sam's was $139 - didn't check to see if a trade was mandatory. I like the guy's at Steven's - the put up with me asking a lot of questions and they seem to know what they are talking about.

Get the inexpensive universal battery hold down kit. There’s a small hole in the stock back battery mount. Bend one of the rod ends till you can hook it in the hole. Take a small piece of angle aluminum and drill a hole to mount to the second front mounting hole on the chassis. And another on the L to hook the other rod in. Use another piece of aluminum rod across the battery top, and connect to both upright rods. Use some wooden blocks to take up any extra space on either side. Be careful that the cross piece can’t short on the positive terminal. :D

On the other hand, I did manage to contact both pos and neg terminals when using a wrench that was just a bit longer than I thought when installing my battery... that's a kinda Dorki, no?

I think I can make that plate pictured in Zims. If I use plywood would that be "Dorki" enough?

Not really. Fixing is what we do well. Staying on track, well that's another story.

I used the cutting board method that was on PP when I installed my Optima...hasn't moved and uses stock mount locations.

I cut a piece of plywood that fits under the rear lip and bolted it to the bottom of the battery, the bolted the whole "assembly" to the front two threaded holes designed for the battery mount. It is solid and was very inexpensive: cost me $0. If I had not had the stuff lying around it would have increased the cost to over $1, but well under $2.

I have a friend with a CNC and we are going to make some of these things to sell. The ones we sell will be aluminum, wood will be optional :-)
