Java advice

Should I add Java to my system? As some of you know my system died and I needed to reformat and reload everything. Would Java open me up to more ads, junk, etc? As you would expect, NIST needs Java to display time from their site. Requires an extra click to display without it. The older I get the less I enjoy the extra click!

My recomendation for Java is to avoid the Froo-Froo type you get from Starbucks. I like the brand from the Everyday Cafe.
All joking aside, I installed Java, and have no problems, I don't remember any pop-up type of crap. Then again my pop-up blocker is awsome.

My $0.02:
I recommend you go ahead and install Java and all the updates to go along with it. Some sites don't work properly without Java.

Linda says if you have Internet Time set, then you can just look in the lower right hand corner of the screen, and forget about NIST.

If you mostly surf, not alot of call for java, just games and stuff, but you can get it at http://java.com and then you can get the link to watch traffic in the air space over San Jose, CA :|
She does

I hate Java and avoid installing it when I can. When it is installed, I always go in and disable all of the start up "latest version check" crap it installs. I also do the same with Adobe, Quicktime, etc. I spend a lot of time in teh intarwebs, and rarely need Java. Flash has taken over a lot of what Java used to be used for.

Don't bother until you find you need it ... you'll be asked and it will be installed for you.

I love Dorkiphus. Practical Linda, ask me some day why I need to know the time to the exact second. Just like Porsche advice. Two for two against. This country can't get together on anything any more. ;)

I work with computers and I think we should just drop kick them off the highest area and be done with them. The simple hand shake - meet and greet is long gone. Phone calls – No way – IM and text messaging\crack berry’s - is apparently the way to communicate. How easy is it to use a phone for what it was designed to do…TALK..Go figure.. We communicate through an object ergo no human contact personally. Most people could not last without some form of connection to the world for more than 1.5 hours minus sleeping. BUT we need DORKIPHUS….BECAUSE we are ADDICTED….

 But that's the nice thing about Dorkiphus -- we all meet up regularly, whether it's at the track or at someone's garage, etc. It has actually promoted a lot of face-to-face contact!

Or in PK's case a lot of...well...nevermind.
