I hate PCs

Last thursday my Internet Explorer quit working. I could get email but nothing else on line. Two calls to Comcast got me nothing. They sent out a software guy. Same result. I took the computer in and it took a guru until today to get the thing back, sans drive (needed reformatting and upgrading) plus memory. I lost a ton of stuff that I use every day and not being a young stud brought up on this stuff, I am having major problems getting started. It seems easy instructions enter one bad ear, rattle around not connecting to anything important, and exit somewhere else with no impact at all. I am like a old dog with this thing. I knew where to go and everything was fine. But when you change the location of my bowl and my menue all I do is wimper and get the shits!

If anybody is in the area and wants a beer and some challenges, I could use the help.

Old Tee - I hate computer gurus who solve problems by reformating the hard drive. That's like me taking my Pcar to a mechanic because it won't start and coming out with a new engine. Sure there are times its appropirate to reformat, but not at the frequency I see it. Course I don't know anything about your system's former configuration or if a root cause to your problem was diagnosed before the radical surgery .

Regardless, I live 2 hrs west of you at Deep Creek Lake so I won't be just dropping by....but if I can help by phone, let me know.

The reformat and add RAM method doesn't do anything to fix the root of the problem. I'd say it's Microsoft, but not everyone is willing to stand up with me on that.

If you're willing to throw in the towel on them, let me know. I'm very happy to help out. I can help you get a nice discount on some little fruit company products. ;)

John, when was the last time you sat down and had a serious talk with your PC about its behavior, and how it makes you feel?

Others,
No fruit in this house since an Apple II. Been challenged ever since. Great KB tho.

Update:

I got most of it working. Lost some programs I liked but can work around that. Lost 10 years of Outlook addresses. Can't find the old file in the back up method he used. It is not a .wab file as you might expect. A lot of problems this system had are solved and it is much faster. Still, I hate computers, taxes, too much government, Porsche maintainabiliy engineers (if there ever was such a thing), fast growing grass and speed traps. It could be worse, I could have a boss.

Outlook data files are *.pst files, not *.wab files (windows address book)
