Sending a car back to Germany
I was wondering if anybody had ever taken a car back to Germany, I spend two weeks a month in the EU, mainly near Stuttgart and was thinking of taking my SC back to Germany to use as a daily driver as it would "save" the company some money on rental cars.

Shipping to Europe...
Some years ago I shipped my 912E from Long Beach to Surrey Docks, UK as a private temporary import to Europe. The process remains the same as far as I've seen. The car travelled on its original blue plates. The temporary import status was for six months if I recall. The shipping company and import/export agents took care of insurance, import registration and temporary registration paperwork as part of the 'deal'. Cost was a reasonable circa $1000 including fees for a container shipment that took about two months. Rotterdam would be a good bet for shipping from the E. coast I'd expect, but you'd have to check the shipping companies and handling agents first. Costs vary widely. The only problem I encountered was insuring the car to drive in Europe- since it was a strange model, strange VIN etc. You'll want an international drivers license and insurance 'green card' sorted out before you leave- I think. I cannot hazard as to whether it will 'save' you $$ to do this- but having my own car, touring the alps and storming the Dolomiti (as much as a 912E can!!) made it well worth it to me. For shipping companies try Hemming's, or mags like Classic and Sports Cars, or Thoroughbred and Classic Cars, etc. Bon Voyage! R/Dave L.
