Can VA ticket you for expired DC tags?

Too busy messing around with the rollbar this weekend to replace my dc sticker in the windshield. Come back from lunch to discover a $40 ticket. Further, it seems as though their stupid ticket devices aren't equipped to write up dc tags as it shows the expiration date as 10/2006, when the ticket was clearly written up on 10/24/06. As I recall, in VA, the tags are good through the end of the month. PLus I thought there was a grace period.

Do I have a case here? I'm just annoyed right now.

VA has to give full faith and credit to DC's decision to title/register your car but that doesn't extend to letting you drive with out of date registration any more than it does in DC.

IIRC, I believe DC, MD and VA have reciprocity. However, tags are also good until the end of the month. I'm sure you can get out of it.

No grace period, just sometimes if you take care of it right away, a judge will throw it out.

YMMV.

Ha ha. Took it out already because I had my g/f and her sister and mom (who are visiting from out of the country) all jammed in my car on sunday night. Fortunately, they are all small people so they actually fit pretty well.

Your tags have yet to expire, so the ticket is BS.
Va can write a ticket to anybody driving in Va for expired tags, just like speeding. Just goes to prove, cops suck in all states.

I don't mind the cops as people I just detest thier jobs.

Well, technically, in dc there is an expiration date (10/21/2006) but nothing on the ticket indicates that date and only lists the month and year like they have in VA. That is why I was questioning the validity of the ticket.

Well expired is expired. I would just pay it in advance and be done with it. It is a non moving violation so no points. JMO it ain't worth the fight. Cops still suck! :)

nearly the exact same sequence happened to my buddy 6 or so months ago. he challenged and it was upheld - the other question is: How much is your time worth? for me, $40 will get you about how long it took me to type this. ;)
