Saving another one, this time a 1984 Carrera Targa
I picked up this 84 Targa without Engine and Transmission, earlier this year. Besides the engine and transmission, a few other parts are missing.
I started to disassembling the car, or what was left and inspect for rust and other damage. Here are some pictures of the Targa when I got it home. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4904/...7da39ea7_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4858/...2fe64612_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4882/...05a02716_b.jpg To be continued Engelbert |

Here are some pictures from the disassembling process.
Looks like I need to make a new rear shelf. https://live.staticflickr.com/4807/3...d8241917_b.jpg Got a small rust spot , I need to fix, where the dirt accumulated. Looks like this is an area that need attention on the impact bumper cars. https://live.staticflickr.com/4821/4...5cfb71eb_b.jpg The left door and the left rear panel must have had some pain at one time. The door is rusted at the bottom, but I got a good one to replace it. The rear panel must have being repaired at one point. https://live.staticflickr.com/4863/3...3267c17e_b.jpg We will find out later how good or bad it will be. https://live.staticflickr.com/4901/3...7dd60c6d_b.jpg A little dent at the left inner corner of the rear panel. https://live.staticflickr.com/4871/4...bc63a2b6_b.jpg The right side looks pretty nice. https://live.staticflickr.com/4882/4...05a02716_b.jpg So I removed the rear Targa window. The rubber was like wood, and I had to cut piece by piece out, trying not to damage the trim. https://live.staticflickr.com/7836/3...acca1921_b.jpg Here is what it looked like under the rubber. Just a bit surface rust, no holes. https://live.staticflickr.com/7867/4...4747f74c_b.jpg The windshield was removed the same way as the rear window. https://live.staticflickr.com/7888/3...9c490ce0_b.jpg To be continued. This will be as always a fun learning opportunity for the rest of us

Have not done a lot on the Targa. To many other things going on.
I fixed the small dent above the left tail light. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...66a6ebcb_b.jpg Then I started to investigate what's going on under the cracks at the left rear quarter panel. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...95f1cafb_b.jpg There was quite a layer on Body filler. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...728e7c0d_b.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...11fbc07e_b.jpg It looks like there was something in the way, and now I understand why the door was rusted at that area. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...27aef50c_b.jpg This will need a bit of work, however, I'm still amazed that there is not a lot of rust at that area. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...e5655dd7_b.jpg Happy Weekend Engelbert |
Wow! That poor car. Glad you are saving it. Did the owner say what happened to the engine and gearbox?
