Recommendations for shop for trailer repair
 

Time to change the brake backing plates on my '98 Trailex. 21 years of rust makes them too hard to work on. I've already spent 2 days on other trailer gremlins so I'm ready to send it to a shop. Any recommendations for trailer repair in Northern Virignina? Or do I take it west towards Leesburg and Summit Point?

I’ve heard good things about American Truck and Trailer near me. I’m going to give them a shot soon to bring my tire rack up to date so it can actually fit 18s and maybe upgrade the wiring.

I’m open to other places though.

Talk to the folks at Trailex. I went down this path for a CT-7541 based on forum recommendations about larger tires are better for various reasons but they said it was a waste of time and money. If you install larger wheels/tires there will be insufficient clearance so new brackets (see image) will need to be fabricated or sourced from Trailex to lift the wheel well. I learned the hard way.

Yep. My tire rack was made when 15s and 16s were in vogue.

With a trailex I think you can simply loosen some nuts and slide the beams around is the T bolt slots Might be a bit more here and there depending

If you have a standard Trailex tire rack on the trailer, you can easily adjust the height of the tire center pipe, by loosening the 4 t-bolts holding the vertical squarish tube, and then sliding it up or down as necessary.

Based on Tony's pic, it appears that you can "widen" the verticals too, correct?
