Front-end wobble/ need to borrow a set of wheels
I have a wobble in the steering at 70 . I have replaced all the bushings, tierods, balljoints . I have had the tires balanced multiple times with no effect.
Would someone have a set of wheels i could try to see if it is my tires or rims.. i am at a loss Thanks Len 85 911 coupe |

In the past, I've been able to assess some wheel "trueness" by spinning the wheel/tire on the car. You can assess up & down movement by observing the tread surface from the side as the wheel rotates. Additionally, you can check left and right wobble by finding a consistent line on the tread surface and observe it head-on as you spin it. You can also check side-to-side wobble from
the side by setting up a stationary pointer where you see movement as it spins. You can also use this approach to measure movement of the sidewall versus the edge of the wheel. Sometimes a failing tire carcass can manifest itself as a weird wobble feel. Check for bulges in the tread and sidewall, and/or soft spots in the sidewall (indicating air has migrated between the belts and outer case). |

When the tire was unmounted, however, it was pretty obvious it was dead - dust and debris flew out of the interior. |
I can not thank John enough. I tried the rims he had and the steering wheel shaking was gone..i know now it's my wheels.. it was very nice meeting you John ..thank you again .

Seems you've had front end wobble before... Perhaps its the 17" euromeister wheels? Perhaps its aging tires? Perhaps its just flat spots due to inactivity? |
Wheels or tires? A tire can look round and be mounted on a rim that is true and still cause road force induced shimmy. Internal carcass defects can do this without much if any external cues.
Are the rims round and true? This is easy to see. If so I would suspect the tires. Are the tires round and true? Try overinflating a bit and spinning them on the car. |
I had my wheels looked at and one was slightly bent..They fixed it ...i took it for a run and it was great ..and then it would shake. It does not do it all the time at 70..i give up . I guess ill live with it..

Nut-and-bolt the suspension bits?
Maybe they didn't fully straighten the bent wheel? |
I put the wheels on and torqued the lugs
