32k for amps? no problems http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls....ube&1142271513 geez, 20k seems a bargain http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls....ube&1142016986 50k retail? (what's in HIS garage?) http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls....ube&1140814825 ("Esoteric"- if the shoe fits...) when your 50k cd player doesn't satisfy.... http://img457.imageshack.us/img457/9...ic3copy5zu.jpg ... you have to go to the ole faithful... the turntable http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls....abl&1141503872 i think it would be more cost effective to just hire Yo-Yo Ma to play at your house for the weekend. |
Will it make "The Chronic" sound any better than it already does? I wish that would come out on Gold MasterDisc. :D

Nice tubes.

I love browsing on Audiogon. The only problem is that once you have heard a "real" system - you will never be satisfied with what you own. If I could only afford these:
http://www.audaud.com/audaud/JUN03/E...uip1JUN03.html I'd be a happy camper. |
I have a co-worker who plays w/ stuff like that, but usually older and more collectable. He just bought a $4k set of RCA cables!!
He reminds, me, though, that only the initial purchase is expensive (read, minimal maintenance costs) AND you can sell the good stuff for more than you paid. Doubtful, though, that he gets a grin on his face with his toys that comes close to mine as when I barrel down the Chute at 100... |
i'm looking for cheap electrostatics (yeah, i know  ) or some bookshelf speakers w/ high sensitivity. i'm dipping my toe into the two-watts-per-channel world of tube stereo...
|
Nice. You going pure Class A ?
I am guessing that the stats won't be efficient enough for that type of amplifier. What are you looking at? ML, Quad? |
I would think that you would want some sort of horn speaker or an electromagnetic setup that doesn't use crossovers.
Check this out: http://www.welbornelabs.com/recomendspeaks.htm Recommended for single ended amps. The Omega TS33 caught my eye as a smaller unit. 96dbs at 1W/1m |

A seperate sub would be required to get any true bass. |
I've just recently been sucked into the DIY world of tube amps. I'm currently researching 300B, single ended triode, tube rectified (true class A) as a DIY project,
Similar to Derek Waltons MKI/MKII (which are really the tried and true JE 300B monoblocks with boutique components): http://www.iol.ie/~waltonaudio/menu.html http://www.iol.ie/~waltonaudio/mk2images/Mk2front1.jpg Currently looking for schematics to taylor that amp to my liking (dual mono blocks in a single chassis, integrated, multiple line inputs, single volume control) As of now, I'm just getting the creative juices flowing. We'll see how much time and $$ I can dedicate, but it would be a FUNN project. If parts start coming to my door, I'll keep you guys posted. |
