Cig. lighter wiring?

So... coming home last night my V1 decides it won't power up. Checked the plug fuse, it was ok. Put the V1 into another cig. outlet, and it works fine. So it must be my outlet, or the wiring leading to it.

Does anyone know what color wires I should be looking for? Haven't checked the #4 fuse on 10-fuse panel yet (which, according to some, controls the cig socket), but if that turns out to be ok, then how do I trace this?

I *really* wanted to have V1's services for the Sat. run.... :x

Was the cop understanding when you told him the reason you're on the side of the road at 1 in the morning is because the V1 stopped working?

As a point of reference, I was using my V1 on the last FR. I think you are doing the same route. I picked up a little radar from a moving Sheriff around Middleburg and a stray (?) laser when we passed under (!) I-66. The rest of the day was wide open.

:D :D LOL, yeah, that was pretty funny. "Yes officer, I'm ok, just trying to make this thing work so I can speed home on your empty highway..." He just asked if I was allright. I had to turn off the car just to hear him  then I mumbled that I dropped something and was looking for it. My map excuse seems to work well esp. w/ the decidedly-out-of-state plates... Thanks for checking in anyway, siberian.

What's worse is that now that I'm "ready" to hardwire the sucker, I can't seem to find my V1 box and the extra wires inside it. (Still in the "unpacking" stage LOL)

  , What did I miss last night? Dave, was it a MoCo officer?

}{arlequin 10-22-2004 02:23 PM

Yeah, Pari, local MoCo...

I realized my V1 was not working so I tried to fiddle w/ the cig plug (it doesn't always seat well) and after being unsuccessful I decided to pull over and check it out in detail... for a while I thought Charlie was having his fun w/ me b/c we discussed earlier how someone used to crank his radio, etc. in his car... well, when I started up the car in your garage, my wipers were on.... thought it was Charlie getting me back for laughing at him (then again it could've been me b/c I was diving under the dash)

Well, I thought that maybe he unplugged my V1 remote display too, so I pulled over to check all that. That's when Eli came by and 10 seconds later is was the poh-leece too. He wanted to help but all I was trying to do is set myself up for "safe speeding" duh. I have one more fuse to check when I get home, otherwise I gotta trace some wiring to get some power to the "road angel" I'll feel naked w/o it all day tomorrow.

Have you given any thought to just hardwiring it? You could save the cigarette lighter plug for the aftermarket cupholder!

Eli 10-22-2004 03:19 PM

FYI...I was just kidding about the cup holder

}{arlequin 10-22-2004 03:27 PM

I would love to hardwire (guess now I have to get around to it) but I have no idea where I placed the V1 box and the extra cables.... I'm still kinda in an "unpacking" stage....

No prob w/ cupholders in my car LOL, regardless, I'd still want that damn socket to work b/c then I could free it up for a phone charger or something....

Not really concerned w/ the malfunction (sooner or later I'm bound to fix it) it's just the timing w/ the drive that's annoying... I'll give it a shot tonight just in case I get lucky and manage to trace the prob.
