Exhaust question
Is it necessary to remove the muffler first when removing the exhaust on a 79SC that is stock?
|
If you can reach and remove all 12 manifold nuts, the WHOLE exhaust system should drop right out.
Removal of the muffler straps/bolts also needed. |
Removal gets easier the more you dismantle. I just did this on my SC to install SSIs & even w/Eric’s help it was a hassle! The right side is doable but the left is a bear! Plus the whole shooting match probably weights 50 lbs or more!

Exactly my thought. With the muffler in there things get heavy and awkward. I'd suggest taking it apart piece by piece. Having a heat exchanger smack you in the head, while laying on your back, isnt too fun.

Thank you, I thought so.
I was going to pull it Saturday but I was ambushed by a blonde garden nazi wielding a big hoe! I surrendered. Today was just too nasty. Maybe tomorrow after a doc appointment. Note to Pari: I have your compressor gift here. Also want to talk to you about the a/c stuff you are removing. Am I allowed to take a PU truck to Hershey without being shunned by Dorkusites??? :P |

The Jeep GC will be at Hershey, driven by a friend of mine representing the mule division. So if any dorki's need to haul some stuff back, look for the green V8. John, I will try to stop by sometime either this weekend or next monday because I am busy most of this week. |

We always bring our truck – but you must clearly display a “Porsche Support Vehicle” sticker in the rear window. Usually, just to the left & below the rifle rack :!: You can get them at Hershey or I give one of our extras. |
