I thought all Caymans came with Studs. Check the driver's seat!

I have two. I think they are 95mm

I have to ask. How did the stud break?

Disconcerting. Steel or Ti?

I guess so but honestly doesn't really bother me anymore...I think this is the third one I've had break sorta think of them as a consumable/wear item? Luckily other people extracted them haha - that can be a true pita.

These studs were on the car when I bought it -- so I'm not sure what kind they are. Winter maintenance means replacing them all - I don't trust past a season but I didn't want to do them all mid-season either.

Hey Fumes, can you take a picture of the broken stud broken end head-on? Best detail possible would be nice.

Fumes 07-11-2017 04:53 PM

not with the car but can later on

or tom will if he sees this thread ha

Fumes please do and here is why? It looks like 80% of the surface area of that broken stun is a matte grayish color indicating fatigue fracture. This has happened over time and WAS ALREADY THERE. The silver colored area in brittle fracture that was done quickly with the air hammer. It appears that 80% of this stud was already fatigue fractures. Now remember that once one goes, the load on the others is increased by at least 25%. Also remember that high strength steel is far more proven to fatigue cracking than more ductile steels. I am guessing that perhaps this stud was from your right front wheel?
