Maryland Shop Recommendation for IMS Bearing Since the DE schedule for Potomac is out, time to start budgeting car projects for the spring (when hopefully the garage will be above 38 degrees.) Can anyone recommend a shop in Maryland for getting the IMS bearing replaced? I have a 2000 996 Coupe. Want to do that and replace the AOS before track season. Possibly a clutch too, depending on how it looks. Looking for a shop near Rockville, Germantown, Frederick, or Ellicott City. If anyone has a recommendation on a shop to avoid, please send me that a PM too. Thanks. |

Hey George, Unequivocally I would recommend Matt De Maria at Stuttgart Performance Engineering, the job is done right the first time. He is located in "Old Town" Gaithersburg, and one of the best techs in the area bar-none. http://www.stuttgartperformanceengineering.com/ , 301-948-6762 I know in your post that you said that you wanted to track the 2000 996, are you sure that you want to track that particular car though? I have the exact same car, and due to reliability issues that the engine suffers I would do some research before I would track it "personally". If you do track it, rock on!! |

Thanks. With 23 known modes of failure, It's not my primary track car, but when I instruct with PCA I like to bring it. |

LN Engineering lists GT Performance in Edgewood, MD as one of their recommended installers. I have no experience with this shop but LN qualifies them so that should mean something. |

I know Ralph's Auto in Owings Mills has the LN tools and has done the IMS bearing replacement in the past. I''ve had very good experiences with them with my 996. They have a ton of Porsche experience and have always been absolutely honest and reasonable about everything. I have no connection to them other than being a happy customer for many years. b-man |

pfft -- easy to remember. The one who uses all caps for his user name always drives his wife's car at the track 'cause his is broke. ...Although that may be the norm for Baltimore, as that often covers Irfan as well. |
