What type of TV do you have?

Thinking of getting a new TV. Specifically looking at getting a LCD flat screen. What we have right now is a 36" Toshiba tube TV that is about 10 years old, downstairs. Looking to keep that and put the new one upstairs for the free 27" Magnavox TV that finally crapped out. So as you can tell, I am not in "the know" on TV's.

I saw Sam's Club had 47" Vizio LCD for $898, 1080P (or whatever). Is that good?

What LCD's do you guys have? Not looking to get a plasma for $$$ considerations.

Thanks

Have had our Samsung 46" LCD for about 3 months now and still can't get over the picture on hd channels. In fact I rarely check the non hd channels now.

Dvd's are just insane.

Wii game are fun too. Play lego star wars with my 4yr old.

I got a Sumsung 46" LCD last year. So far, so good. Last TV I got before that was in 1996, so it was a big improvement. 1080p is what you need for anything over 42", on smaller screens it becomes less important. Personally, I'd stick with the name brands as they tend to be better quality and don't have the service issues the no-name ones do:

There's so much competition between Panasonic, Samsung, and Sony that overpaying for a name brand is less of an issue IMO.You can get a very nice 46" Samsung from Amazon for $1200 shipped. That Vizio from Sam's will be $950 after taxes. Prices will probably go lower when next year's models come out, too.

Plasma X2 view from any angle no smearing bright display. I just realized my smallest TV is 50 inches. Got HD just in time for my vision to start going bad so i can't tell.

Plasma's are on their way out. Several of the major manufacturers have discontinued their plasma models in favor of LCD. Recent legislation in the EU has basically banned the sale of new plasma tv's, so most of the manufacturers are halting production entirely.

Personally, I'm waiting for the new Sony XBR8's to come down in price. It's the only tv right now with color LED backlighting. The color and contrast is amazing on those things, better than plasma IMO, but the nearly $5k price tag is a lot more than I'm willing to spend.

I was expecting the prices of HDTVs to come down with the competition due to the digital switchover. I wonder if that will happen.

On the way out or not they have some good features. They cost more to make and have less profit commie we know better lawmakers or not. I too am waiting for the next gen to be here and almost gone so they are less expensive too. i am a late adopter on some things. $30 for a DVD player rather than $800.

Samsung 7 series or better....Spent many hours and for the price, it was hands down better....and i am a Sony fan...Could not justify the cost....

Agree 100%, my point was that if you want a plasma, you better get it quick before they stop selling them. The Pioneer Elite KURO 50" plasma has probably the best picture of any TV ever made - and you can get them at a fraction of their original price now that Pioneer has discontinued them.
