Motorcycle Needs New Home-Free

I've been hemming and hawing over what to do with my 1981 Honda CB650, which was given to me several year ago by David O. Several months back I had Matt De Maria service it because it wouldn't idle. He rebuilt the carbs and did a compression test where he discovered it needed new rings. I was first going to do the job myself, but after much contemplation, decided if I felt the need for "air in my hair" the Targa would suffice. After conferring with Dave, we felt keeping it within the Dorki community was the best option. So, If any of you would like a new project, it's yours for the taking. What it needs at minimum is new piston rings ( shop manual included) and rebuild the front brake calipers. I can even deliver if in the immediate D.C. area. If more than one of you expresses interest I'll put your names in a hat and pull out the winner.

John, Im quite interested. I really don't need another project, but I've been trying to find a starter bike for a very good lady friend who just got her license. (}{ and I both know her well.) Not exactly a dorki but pretty close;) I could even pickup. I could definitely promise that when it changes hands again it comes back to a dorki.

Would make a great project over the winter! I would hate to drive a bike in town again, but it could have a good life out at the farm for the twistys on the weekends. If it goes unclaimed, I have a barn for its safe keeping and a trailer to get it out there.

Would the bike be some type of payment for services done/received by the female?

If so, hands down, the bike should go to }{ and Stephen.

Why else would I have said she was "very good"? ;)

John,

I am also interested, really don't need another project, but the opportunity to drop an air cooled engine.

Regards

FWIW, Take this all w/ a grain of salt but w/ my limited exp w/ the CB350 & 550, you don't have to take the engine out to replace the rings. After removing the tank, carbs, & heads, the cyls will come off the block. IIRC, even a diminutive TZ250 racebike can get the pistons off w/o pulling the lower end/tranny out.

It's just screaming "cafe racer" to whoever gets it. I'd throw my name in the hat but getting it all the way back to Nashville might be a problem.

Whoever gets it needs to keep us updated on its progress.

Anybody else? I'll give any fence stradlers till the end of the day before a name is picked from the hat. Thank's for the responses!
