Starter Motor Removal on 88 Carrera

Looks like a real double jointed job to remove. Is it that bad, or do you have to drop the motor??

Hard to get to, partial drop helps. But very duable with lift harder on your back. Is it bad, or just acting up? Could prolly change it out for you at Function tomorrow. Need an allen for the top barrel nut.

Can be done in-situ but is a PITFA. Practice up on your swear words. Having a long 10mm allen socket is a good idea. Doing a partial drop by pulling the rear motor mount bolts, supporting the engine on a jack and dropping it a couple inches makes the job a little easier.

What makes this different than an earlier 911. I once had to do a starter in the '76 on the side of the road. Brand new soleniod decided to kick on, permenantly. Only took about 5-10 minutes.

x2 on the "bring it to Funktion tomorrow", if you feel like trekking to BF western Virginia...

Can't make it to Funktion tomorrow, burnt a hole through the B&B muffler and sent it away, so straight pipes out the headers!!

I think the short version was explained to me on here once if you want to do it with the motor and tranny in the car...

-Disconnect the battery
-Jack up the car and support it
-Lay with your feet facing out the back of the car
-Hug the transmission with one hand
-With your free hand reach up and loosen the top barrel nut
-Loosen the lower nut and out it will come

O yeah you will get a little dirty...
