Welding 101, advanced smack talk and burgers.

Who wants to get together and do the welding 101 as discussed in another thread? This informal get together is open to all that have an interest in learning the art and skill of metal melting or not. I will get some burgers and chips and we can pot luck the beer and other foods. There is safe haven for non welders to stand around and tell track lies and plenty of parking for P cars. Andy C and Stephen (SMD) have offered up to do some instruction on the various methods of welding. Mig and a Tig welding methods will be demonstrated. If you like you can bring some clean, paint free non galvanized metal to practice on. 1/8 thick is easy to learn on. Home Depot carries bare metal in the nut and bolt area. We will cut it up and you can weld it back together. One strip of 1/8 X 1.5X by 2 feet long or so will be plenty. I will have plenty of practice metal on hand as well so bringing you own is optional.
If you have access to a welding helmet bring it. I will have some extra helmets on hand but the more the better. A cotton long shirt or jacket is a good idea if you plan on trying ether method out. I have welding gloves, a welders jacket and other needed gear like welders and grinders on hand. This is nothing but a get together of friends and an introduction to the methods not any kind of real welding instruction. I will have some hand outs but fear not there will be no test.

PM me if you need my address and directions.

NOTE THE NEW DATE 12:00 till whenever. Sunday June 15. This is Father's Day. Are other fathers like me and could not care less about Fathers day other than an excuse to get out of the house? "I have to go play with big noisy nasty potentially dangerous power tools and drink beer, besides, its Fathers Day!"

Friday afternoon update Weather looks OK to good for Sunday. I hit Costco and stocked up on burgers, buns, chips, some Coke and Diet Coke and all the little stuff like paper plates and forks. I will have some coolers for beer, feel free to bring your liquid of choice. Chime in if you want to bring a side dish such as brautworst or beans or even (gasp) something that might be considered good for you.

Kids, wives and or girlfriends welcome but not required. This is a kid friendly house and the sandbox, playhouse and moon bounce will be open. Welding will be in the shop, there is plenty of safe haven from arc rays.

Who is in? PLease edit any posts from the first go around to reflect if you can make it on the new date.

I would, though Tech on Saturday will make it a busy Porsche weekend.

Sounds awesome. Not 100% sure I can make Sunday, but if I'm able I'll definitely be there with beers in tow.

Sunday morning is also the Drive and dine event. :(

What part of town are you in? Perhaps all can be done.

There's also a big local meet on Sunday morning in Germantown.

Interested but out-of-town.

I'll talk to my social planner to see if I can make it. Would love to come since I started this discussion in the tech forum. Afternoon works best for me & can bring food & beer.

Sounds like a great idea. I'll bring some food and beverages to put into the mix. Should we bring some steel stock to practice on?
