Ching Lee

Anybody know Ching Lee? A friend was talking over lunch and mentioned Ching, a recent U of MD graduate, had bought a mid-70's "Porsche race car." I of course thought it was just any Porsche until I heard he has a cage, seats and harnesses, and is buying race fuel at $7-8/gallon. Sounds like he should be on this board...

Yeah. Ching Lee is Hunt's alter-ego.

Chings a close friend. "SalazarS2K" on here. Doesn't post much anymore. The weenie had a S2000 before I made him sell it to buy the RS clone;) The 2.8L race motor is long gone (and its requirements for $$$ leaded race gas) and a 3.6 sits in its place now.

Would the 2.8L-powered car and the 3.6 run in the same class?

In DE - yes... anywhere else? Not likely.

Okay, DR, call me stupid. I assumed the 2.8L race engine is generating mad HP for size (like that early red firecracker that breaks down a lot at DEs). If running well, and with the lighter weight, it could/should be as fast as an early 3.6 (unless the 3.6 has been similarly pushed). Right?

In the "my car is too pretty to track" category it doesn't matter;) The only thing that matters is how many people ohhh-and-ahhh at a rennlist/dorki gathering @ starbucks. The fact that it sits for months on end in his parents garage doesn't matter. The fact that the rollbar squeaks to high hell doesn't matter. Or, none of the gauges work, or it doesn't start after a long sit, or the bumpers nearly fell off, or the gearing is more appropriate for a 2.8, ... Only that its shiny white and blue;)

I'll catch hell when(if) he finds this thread;) I'll disarm him now by saying his comeback will be in the form: "When was the last time you had a running porsche?" I'll nod my head and the conversation will soon degrade to childish insults and me tackling him into the bushes...

Its(He's?) still a garage QUEEN.

He'll always catch hell from me for not tracking the 2.8 at least once...

He had a car that required very-difficult-to-find-except-at-the-track RACE FUEL and he didn't track it? Someone should have just confiscated that car.

Race rules don't distinguish between a 'race motor' versus a 'regular', other then bumping you up into GT class if you mod the engine internals. After all, any motor in a race is a 'race motor'... In PCA, I do not believe 2.8L and 3.6L motors run in the same stock classes. Might be possible in a GT class, but I suspect not.

DR -- the Good Doctor politely requested you call him something. What is the hold up??? :p
