Insurance coverage question

A couple of months back I was in an accident driving the Expedition with a freshly rebuilt 3 liter in the back. It wasn't a bad hit, but the motor did get shuffled around, resulting in some bent sheet metal, a dent in the oil cooler line and plenty of scratches to the interior cargo room of the truck.
As I was replacing the sheet metal around the motor in my garage, a neighbor/new found friend (guy's got a Cayman, a pepper, 951 AND he just picked up an NSX, talk about good times...) asserted that since the engine was in the back of the car during the time of the accident, the insurance company should cover all the related damage.
Before calling the insurance company I wanted to see if anyone had similar experience in the past, and if in fact his statement is true.

That's what I understand too. Thread on trailer damage reafirms.

I hate to say it, but what about reading through your policy? Even the thought of such a things sends shudders down my spine! :-)

Worst part is the compression loss in the cylinders and the complete destruction of the CIS system the engine suffered. I don't see the insurance having much of choice but buying new nickies and Webber 44s. Damn shame about that, really.

Wow, I completely forgot about the crushed early exhaust, cracked head, broken fins, etc, etc! ;) Same as "found money"

Just to be sure. This place is lousy with lawyers.

It would most likely be covered by your homeowners insurance believe it or not. since the engine was out of the car it is considered personal property. was the accident your fault ?

What's the decductible and how much is the damage?

Good thing the motor didn't come flying forward through the seats. I knew a guy once, got in a wreck, and ended up being decapitated when a spare he had loose in the back of his suv came rocketing forward upon impact. Keep that in mind next time you load up for the track without tying down all those extra wheels....
